On the heels of the Competition Council’s St. Patrick’s Day scouting trip to see if the Downtown Grand was worth investing this year’s tax return, Vital Vegas reports Rolling Stone (okay Penske Corp) is finalizing the purchase. We have always wanted to love the Downtown Grand, but we never win there. Seriously, at least at the two DECAGONATHON cooler casinos (Palms and Hard Rock – RIP for now) we occasionally walked out with a bigger wad than we entered with. We are pretty sure we never walked out of Downtown Grand not at least $100 down.
As Scott mentions in his post Rolling Stone isn’t the brand it once was, but Gen X may still look on it fondly and make the 1 block trip off of Freemont to take a look. The Downtown Grand name doesn’t have the same drawing power to pull the olds (looking at you Danno) off of Freemont.
We’ll be watching anxiously to see what Rolling Stone marketing does with the place, good luck Penske Corp.
