There is an argument among the Competition Council regarding who created the 3 Coin Drop game. Nothing short of the deaths of all but one of the liars claiming to have invented the game will settle the argument, last one alive gets the credit. However we do know the origin of the game. The song “3 Coins in the Fountain” sung by Frank Sinatra was the inspiration. Back before ATM cards and payout slips, slot machines and convenience stores gave you change in cold, hard, coins. Traditionally members of the Competition Council would toss 3 Coins in various fountains around Las Vegas for good luck, you know like the song lyrics. Sometime in the distant past someone looked over the side of the Excalibur bridge from NYNY/Tropicana and (probably before puking) suggested he/she could land all 3 coins on the rail in the water below. That’s how the game was born, if you want to know who suggested the challenge feel free to ask the Competition Council after the game while enjoying an Espresso Martini.

Game Rules

  • Each player will toss 3 coins (typically quarters) from the Excalibur bridge with the goal of landing the coins on either of the two official target rails in the water below. Each player will toss all 3 before the next player, establishing his/her total on the rails.
  • As the rails are a real pain in the ass to see, everyone playing will be required to watch where the coins land to help ensure correct counting.
  • After all players have completed their throws, any ties will be broken by a sudden death toss-off. Each tied player will toss 1 coin with those missing a rail being eliminated until a winner is determined.
